KELSEY FEMALE MALTESE DOB 8/17/10 ADOPTED!!
August 2017. When we received Kelsey at MPMR we weren't sure even we could help get her out of the withdrawn state she was in. She would hardly raise her head to even acknowledge your presence and when she did move, it looked as though she was in pain. After thorough medical evaluations ..a couple of minor issues were addressed and it was decided perhaps all the years of being in a small enclosure 24/7 had taken its toll on her little body and spirit. So we determined to give her some anti-inflammatory medication and work trying to improve her emotional health. It is paying off, this little sweetheart is slowly coming to life! Her actual temperament is quite adventurous! She has begun exploring outside the confines of her exercise pen and enjoys exploring outside.
It' s so very humbling watching her venture to new territory....especially knowing how she was just a few short weeks ago. We will continue to work with Kelsey as she becomes more confident and begins to trust even us humans!
It was discovered Kelsey had a deep laceration in her left eye. Unfortunately, it was bad enough her eye needed to be removed. After staying with a volunteer at her home for rehab after surgery, she is back at the rescue and doing very well. In fact, she has even discovered the fun of playing with the treat balls! She is discovering life beyond the mill is FUN!
THANK YOU to Jack Henry Associates in Springfield MO for sponsoring Kelsey as she begins her FRESH START in life at Missouri Puppy Mill Rescue.
JANUARY 2018: Kelsey's personality is beginning to shine! She enjoys playing with the treat balls and Nash (another dog at the rescue!) It is the most wonderful thing to see her play and interact with others. Her courage to trust again and begin to enjoy her new life inspires us all.
MARCH 2018: Kelsey continues to surprise us. She loves her cozy couch for napping but springs to life when he hears the treat bag rattling or sees the treat ball rolling by. Take her outside and she will amaze you with her sprints, who knew she could move that fast! Kelsey has totally adjusted to life with one eye, it doesn't slow her down one bit.
MAY 2018: Kelsey is SO happy it is finally spring. She loves being outside running and playing with her rescue friends. She enjoys occasional sleepovers with a volunteer, but will soon be ready for a new home.
AUGUST 2018: Kelsey is available for adoption!! It has been inspiring and humbling to witness the courage and resilience of this beautiful girl. Early in her rehab, we patiently waited and watched and prayed that she would one day wag her tail. Her transformation from a cowering, terrified soul to a beautiful, engaged, confident girl who plays with toys and races to be the first in line to grab a treat has been truly miraculous. It has taken a year, and she is worth every single minute we have spent to help her find her place in the world outside of the puppy mill. All she needs now is a home of her own. Call us if you think it might be yours.
APRIL 26, 2019: Kelsey has found her forever home!
