As I sit here this morning, I am overwhelmed at the generosity, love and caring that has been shown to us time and time again at MPMR. We have just celebrated our one year anniversary and what a blessing this month has been! In fact, what a blessing this YEAR has been!
We have come a long way from attending the classes at UMKC on how to set up a not for profit, to forming our Board of Directors, to applying for our state license, our 501 c 3 status, remodeling a bit of the house and getting the grounds ready, purchasing equipment needed, establishing policies and procedures, making our presence known to our local community, building up and establishing our volunteer team, establishing outreach programs (Paw Pantry, Reading in the Classroom, participation in Pets4Life), educating the public to trips to Jefferson City to share our stories with our Representatives and Senators...and somewhere in the midst of all that, we began to accept mill dogs in our care, show them love, compassion and care and watch them change before our very eyes! What a wonderful year it has been! Just a few statistics for the record: MPMR has had 50 dogs come through the doors from June 1, 2016 thru May 31, 2017 We have placed 17 of them in homes We have sent 16 of them out to area rescues 2 of our dear guests have crossed to the Rainbow Bridge Our volunteers have logged over 1200 hours Speaking of volunteers....yes...let's talk volunteers! I am certain we have the best volunteer team EVER! This group of amazing people has come together to do everything from cleaning crates to making the hours long trip to Jefferson City to advocate for our guests or to take time off to attend an out of town event, meet a breeder to pick up dogs or whatever else they may be called upon to do. They show up every day and work with our guests...to give them the confidence they need to trust humans. This rescue is stronger because of our volunteer team! We are forever grateful for their dedication and commitment to MPMR. Then their is our "extended family." These are the team members who visit us daily via social media, may visit us occassionally at the rescue, or those we may meet as we are out in the community. Our extended family includes girl scouts, Sunday School classes, small businesses, corporate businesses, families, and individuals. We are even stronger because of our extended family team members!! Last year at this time, people were wondering if I was crazy...why would I want to make my home a sanctuary for dogs....why start an animal rescue IN MY HOUSE! Today...they may still think I am crazy, but I hope they have a better understanding why....50 dogs whose lives were saved!! Countless numbers of people who were touched in one way or another by the stories, the lives, the work of MPMR. 17 families now have a canine family member to teach them lessons of forgiveness, love, compassion and care. A year ago I invited everyone to join me on a journey to make a difference in the world...one dog and one human at a time. Many have accepted that invitation in whatever capacity they could. As we begin year 2, the invitation still stands....this year won't you please join us on a journey to make a difference in the world...one dog and one human at a time. Thank you to everyone who has come alongside us this year, because of you MPMR is stronger! We are so very honored to be moving forward in year 2 and remember.... Together we can make a difference!
